Owen Sound, Ontario
Track Facts
Bayview Speedway was located in Owen Sound. Bayview was a 1/4 mile dirt oval that opened May 24, 1952 and closed in 1953. Lights for night racing were installed in August 1952.
Bayview Speedway was built by Bert Slumskie, George Gardner and James Albert. Raced Wednesday nights originally, expanding to Fridays and Saturdays. Race events were organized by the Grey Bruce Stock Car Racing Club.
Bayview Speedway was part of the post-war boom in grassroots racing across Ontario. Tracks like Bayview, Dundalk, and Bluewater gave local drivers a chance to compete in stock car racing before larger paved ovals like Delaware and Barrie Speedway rose to prominence. Though Bayview’s lifespan was short, it contributed to the regional racing culture and helped establish Owen Sound as a hub for motorsport enthusiasts in the early 1950s.
