There were apparently a few stock car racing events on the 1/2 mile horse track before the 1/4 mile paved oval was built.

Wasaga Beach Speedway, (affectionately known as “The Beach” in it’s day) was known for hosting races for stock cars, “B” Modifieds and 6 cylindar diamonds.

Wasaga Beach Speedway was a very popular place, drivers and fans alike came from all around as this track had the reputation that, it was the place to be. The pit area for the cars was outside the horse track in turns three and four by the horse stables

Tom Cuzzilla Sr. (now deceased), his most notable win of this era, was at Wasaga Beach Speedway. That race Tom won the feature event, flipping after catching the guard rail on the last exit out of turn 4 taking the checkered flag airborne and upside down, litterally.

Burt Smith, Pete Harvey and Bill Reiley took over as track managers in 1969, Burt (the Grandaddy as he was affectionately known) and Pete had the racing knowledge and Bill looked after the financial end of the track. Burt Smith died later that year.
