Now we move on to my last race. I had been promoting races on a 1/4 mile dirt track in Paris Ont. I had an “Old Timers” race every year, I would call my old friends, get about a dozen of them, and get the same number of my drivers to lend their cars for this race. I was also very lucky to have Bob Anderson show up as flagman, Bob had been the starter at many tracks that I had ran on, plus he was very good.
I ran the track for three years, then one of my drivers named Bob Sewell took over and tried it for one year. Bob also decided to have an “Old Timers” race. One of the drivers from Woodstock, Ted Johnson, gladly lent his car to Larry Anthony from “Downtown Fisherville”. Larry ran Mini Stocks at Cayuga, and did a great job.
In the year 1988, under the new promoter, (Bob), Larry could not make it to drive Teds fast little Honda. So, Ted called me to drive it. ” Absolutely” was my answer. I did, and it was my last time driving. Yes I won, but I had to tell everyone the car won, I was just a passenger. It drove great, and there was that same feeling of being “First”, not so long lasting, but still a high. Thanks to all!
